Mark your calendars and send your full allotment of delegates to the LWVNCA Annual Convention on Saturday, May 5, 9:30 AM. Registration at 9:30 will be followed by a buffet breakfast and the keynote presentation.

Keynote speaker is Ruth Hoffman, LWV-VA Gun Safety Task Force Co-Chair, who will be talking about Gun Violence Prevention. Click here for Ruth's bio.

Our business meeting will include election of officers, approval of LWVNCA 2018-19 budget (see below), and consideration of bylaws amendments (see below).

Cost is $40 per person. Deadline for receipt of registrations and checks is April 29, 2018.

According to LWVNCA Bylaws, Article VII, Convention, Section 6. Powers. The Convention shall: A. Elect officers and directors as designated in Articles IV and V for the ensuing two years and a Nominating Committee; B. Adopt a budget; C. In odd-numbered years consider and adopt a two-year Program, and in even-numbered years consider Program development; and D. Transact such other business as may properly come before it.

Bylaws Committee Report for May 5,2018 After careful study and consultation with the Board the Bylaws Committee recommends the following changes to the LWVNCA By-laws. (bold is addition, strikethrough is delete)

Article IV, Officers Section 5.The Treasurer. . .The books of the Treasurer shall be audited reviewed annually and the report sent to the Board.

Article VII, Section 7. Twenty-five (25) members delegates other than Board members with the authority to vote as defined in Article VII, Section 3 shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of Convention business, provided that there is representation from a majority of the member Leagues, including two (2) Leagues from Maryland, two (2) Leagues from Virginia, and the League of the District of Columbia.

The LWVNCA Board voted unanimously to recommend these Bylaws changes to the 2018 Convention delegates for acceptance. Respectfully submitted, Bylaws Committee: Nancy Soreng, Chair, Olga Hernandez and Betty Mayfield

The LWVUS Lobby Corps needs volunteers to carry the League message to Congress. Training,talking points are provided and members are assigned legislators to visit. If you are interested read the attached Lobby Corp brochure. If interested fill out this application and return to the LWVUS office.

Turning Point Suffragist Memorial

The Turning Point Suffragist Memorial Association (TPSM), is a group working to fund a suffrage memorial at Lorton, VA where some of the suffragist were incarcerated in 1917.
